So I went to the dentist today. I’m not really fond of the dentist seeing how my biggest fear is my teeth being knocked out. Ughhh what a horrible thought. Anywhos, as I was driving home I got a weird revelation.
I have a really small mouth and even smaller teeth so everything they do is extremely painful. My gums were swollen from them flossing and my under my tongue was cut up from them taking x-rays and overall my mouth just hurt. When I smile, my teeth normally look great (I can say that seeing how I spent over 11,000 dollars on them in total). Even if I brush them in the morning and then don’t brush them until that night, they rarely start to look nasty. Well, how amazingly perfect does that relate to your spiritual life. From afar, nobody can see the junk in between my teeth… it’s there… just not big enough to be noticeable. You spiritual life from afar looks great because the sin in your life isn’t big enough to be noticeable. I don’t know many people who floss daily… so when you actually think about it, that means I have plaque in between my teeth that just sits. It’s just like the sin in your life. If you don’t “floss” it away, it will just sit there and get worse. No matter how small it is, or how unnoticable… it is still there until you get rid of it. You know that song that plays on christian radio “Slow Fade” by Casting crowns. The last part of the chorus always gets me. “People never crumble in a day, it’s a slow fade.” Same with our teeth. You have to neglect them for a long period of time for them to start decaying and rotting away. My dentist was telling me how flossing helps prevent decay from even starting. Decay happens because plaque builds up in your teeth and sits there and starts to decay the enamel which eventually after a long period of time, ends up in rot.
Sin is like the junk in between your teeth. If you don’t take care of it, it will only get worse. Take the proper steps to clean the sin away from your life. Just like a toothbrush can brush away plaque, Jesus can wash away your sin. Just like my mouth hurt from getting it cleaned this morning, sometimes it can be painful to get rid of the sin in your life. Breaking that addiction you might have, getting out of that impure relationship, apologizing to someone… whatever it could be. There is a plus side though, it won’t hurt forever and “your teeth will be clean”(You know what I mean ha). Don’t let the junk in between yo teeth build up!
Anyways, thanks for sticking with me through my weird revelation.
^ps. Thats not me. hah
